Urban Scenes – The Art of Lowry (1887-1976)

Laurence Stephen Lowry (1887 – 1976) was an English artist famous for painting scenes of life in the industrial districts of North West England in the mid-20th century. He developed a distinctive style of painting and is best known for his urban landscapes peopled with human figures often referred to as “matchstick men” [see:]

From the murals of Rex Whistler to the ‘jazz’ interiors of Francis Cadell and the ‘white’ flower paintings of Gluck, today we enter the glamourous crossover of art & interior design – the homes and houses of the Bright Young People!
